About Jeremy McEntire
Musician at heart. Teacher by nature.
The youngest of three siblings, Jeremy McEntire was born in Paraguay into a musical missionary family. He began piano studies at the age of three and continued with them through college. He picked up the flute at nine years of age, choosing that instrument as his primary performance vehicle. Upon moving to the United States with his family in 1991, Jeremy began lessons with Francile Bilyeu, professor of flute at Virginia Commonwealth University. Two years later he enrolled as a flute performance major at VCU to continue his studies with Mrs. Bilyeu.
After graduation from VCU, and the wedding to his wife, Kristen, Jeremy pursued further studies in flute performance at the New England Conservatory in Boston, graduating with a Masters in Music in 1999. He apprenticed as a flutemaker at Nagahara Flutes that summer before being invited to join the Orquesta Sinfónica de la UANL in Monterrey, Mexico. He held the position of principal flute for two years, and soon after the birth of their daughter, Abby, the family moved to Houston, Texas for one year.
In 2002, Jeremy, Kristen and Abby returned to the Richmond area to work with The Talent Developing Studio, a music school founded and directed by Jeremy’s parents. He also won a one-year position playing 3rd flute/piccolo with the Richmond Symphony, and he began serving as adjunct flute instructor at the University of Richmond. The family, now including son, Elijah, dog, Patty, and a foster son, has remained in the Richmond area ever since.
Jeremy teaches flute and piano privately from his home in Mechanicsville, as well as at his church, Christ Presbyterian. He continues to serve as adjunct at the University of Richmond and at Randolph-Macon College. Jeremy maintains an active performing career, playing regularly with the Roanoke, Richmond and Williamsburg Symphonies. He has also performed with the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra and the Oratorio Society of Virginia.
Jeremy plays a Nagahara flute and Mini (piccolo). You might find him working as a sales representative for Nagahara Flutes at a convention from time to time!
