jeremy mcentire’s Teaching philosophy
Enriching lives through music.
My goal isn't necessarily to develop world-class musicians, but rather to help students develop a lifelong love of music that enriches every aspect of their life.
Music education has shown to be beneficial for a developing brain. According to studies, not only does it build a foundation for learning by strengthening motor skills and memory—but it also sharpens attentiveness, expands creative capacities and even results in higher English, math and SAT scores. My students regularly place at the top of their class, and several have become class valedictorians.
NURTURING A LIFELONG LOVE OF MUSIC
I want my students to be involved in music as long as possible. That's why I try to create positive experiences in the lesson, at home, and in the community to cement music as a preferred activity for each student. I believe that in this way music stands the best chance of becoming part of the student's life for the long term. As a result, I often end up being part of their lives for a long time too. For example, I recently attended the wedding of a student who took lessons from me from the second grade through part of her college years.
A PERSONAL APPROACH BUILT AROUND EACH STUDENT'S NEEDS
My teaching style involves getting to know each student's strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, even what they do in their spare time. I need to know them well in order to communicate with them most effectively.
I give them a technical foundation so that they can succeed. As they learn the fundamentals, they can continue to advance musically, and thus enjoy it even more.
