The Virginia Consort’s 35th season continues with a Mid-Season Masterworks concert on March 9 at 3:30 p.m. at Old Cabell Hall. Under the direction of Deke Polifka, the concert features two famous French pieces for choir and orchestra: Francis Poulenc’s Gloria and Gabriel Fauré’s Pavane, sung by the Virginia Consort and Festival Chorus of over 100 singers, with full orchestra, Youth Chorale and soloist.

VCU Music Professor Tabatha Easley will be performing a Faculty Recital on Wednesday, September 27th at 7:00pm at the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts. Travel to new worlds, distant galaxies, and back to the future with music from your favorite sci-fi films and television shows including Avatar, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Expanse, Star Trek (1979 and 2009), The X-Files, and more! The Charlottesville Symphony, conducted by Music Director Benjamin Rous, performs highlights from iconic soundtracks that have made science fiction come alive.

Opera Roanoke, Blacksburg Master Chorale, Virginia Tech Choirs, and the Georgia Boy Choir come together for a production of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem, a harrowing and timeless work written for the reconsecration of Coventry Cathedral, which was destroyed during the Battle of Britain in World War II. Hailed as a masterpiece, Britten’s work symbolizes the senselessness of war and the importance of reconciliation. The work is performed in Latin with English supertitles.

It is an elegant fusion of cirque and orchestra, adapting the stunning performances of cirque artists with the majesty of the full symphony orchestra. The program showcases classical music favorites and many of the best cirque artists in the world, thrilling the audience with acrobats, contortionists, dancers, jugglers, balancers, and strongmen. These are some of the most accomplished veterans of exceptional cirque programs and include world record holders, gold-medal winners, Olympians, and some of the most original talent ever seen. Jeremy joins the WSO for this stunning performance.
